Saphira’s lullaby

When the world it waits
Behind your tired eyes
Let this melody guide you through
And from that dark place
You need no longer hide
As these notes will carry you

Over mind-made seas
And past the monsters in your sleep
Turn things not as they seem
Into more warm and pleasant dreams
As you rise above
And give those fears a final shove
Look around now
You are in a place of everything you love

If your mind mistakes
Thoughts for things as real
Let this harmony guide you home
Hear the song it makes
As your wounds begin to heal
Feel safe wherever you may roam

Watch those mind-made seas
Drown the monsters in your sleep
Make all just as it seems
In these warm and pleasant dreams
As you rise above
With not a fear more left to shove
Dream, sweetly
In this place of everything you love

Wrote a song for a favourite poem of mine Confusingly Simple

Forget about the end, there was supposed to be another chorus but I miffed it and was too lazy to do another take.

Oh Tumblr Night

(I saw that people were doing crazy Christmas carol reworks so I thought that for once, I would join the crazy trends that Tumblr throws up. I myself cannot abide by this so I place all blame on my hat; I am merely a slave when my hat has control)

Oh Tumblr Night, the words are softly falling
Forming tears, hearts and souls upon on the page
No time of day when I won’t heed their calling
To feel relief from the wisdom of their sage
And with every line, I can feel my worry fading
Light in my m/ind, with clouds no longer shading
I cry myself to sleep
But these are tears of joy that I weep
Insight, divine
Tumblr nights, where worlds are born

Oh Tumblr night, the memes are so appalling
They lift my mood from the depths to which it fell
Conflicts can appear, but consensus calls for stalling
So we smile and may the haters go to hell
The dashboard comes alive and I know my friends are out there
Writing for my eyes, although inbox is bare
I cry myself to sleep
But these are tears of joy that I weep
Insight, divine
Tumblr nights, where worlds are born

[Flash 9 is required to listen to audio.]

I simply could not resist altering my voice to be more “gnomish”

Forgotton (A garden gnome’s lament)

It’s not easy being one foot tall
Made of clay, completely rigid cannot move at all
But I wait
Wherever you place me
In all conditions whether rain or shine
I hold my smile, hide my pain so I look just fine
While I wait
Wherever you place me

You let the dog out, it comes running straight to me
Chewing on my face, covering me with pee
While I wait
Where your dog placed me
When you let your garden get a little overgrown
I get caught up the vines and I lay there all alone
While I wait
Where your dog placed me

I cannot roam
As I sit waiting on the loam
It is a nightmare in this home
I’m another poor forgotten garden gnome

When it’s time for you to cut the grass
The mower blades they hurt my face as you go past
But I wait
Where you ran over me
You see me in chunks and know not what to do
So you put me back together with some modelling glue
And I wait for the glue to dry
Wherever you placed me

You give me to your kids to paint and they colour me in
With bright blue and orange cheeks and a brand new purple chin
And I wait
For them to get sick of me
You take me to the front yard with my new painted head
And place me in the shade of your new garden bed
And I wait, again
Right where you placed me

I cannot roam
As I sit waiting on the loam
I want to leave this home
I’m another poor forgotten garden gnome

The neighbour’s kids they see me and they pick me up
They place me on the back of a passing pick-up truck
And I wait
Where those kids placed me
The truck is diving through the forest on a winding road
On a corner I was thrown out of the pick-up’s load
And I wait
For someone to find me

I cannot roam
As I sit waiting on the loam
I just want to go back home
I’m another poor forgotten garden gnome

A few days ago I wrote the poem called Hush (words below). It was quite well received and I had a lot of requests that I read this piece as a spoken word. I was happily obliging that request  this evening (for #SpokenWordSaturday) when a melody came to me and I had a revelation that it would make a great lullaby-esque song. So I spent a few minutes on the piano and ukulele fleshing it out and this is the video I recorded at 3:30 am.

I’m not sure if this still qualifies as “Spoken Word” for Saturday but I’ve tagged it as such anyway :)

Hush

Hush inner monologue
Do not dog me here
This line is closed for tonight
I want to keep my mind clear

Hush little instinct
It is not linked as you fear
I am surrounded by walls
And by those I hold dear

Hush intuition
There is not one threat so near
You are jumping at shadows
And how dark they appear

Hush little voices
You bring no joys with your jeers
I need only a moment
With a mind that is clear

I’m obsessed with words

Well, Pilgrimsoulinme ruined my video because I was going to play a ukulele song the entire time I spoke as sort of background music but no, she had to go and record herself playing the piano beautifully in the backround.

I chose the other option I had which was to write a quick little song on the ukulele (words for your to sing along below).

I absolutely hate doing anything on video so don’t expect this to be alive for too long (I believe most of the reason for me posting this is that I’m jetlagged and it has interrupted my inhibitor function), but if you watch it, I hope it doesn’t lead to an instant unfollow (though I wouldn’t blame you).

____

Surely you know,
Surely it shows.
Just how much, you’re confusing me.
To what lengths must I go,
To make sure you know,
How to use an apostrophe.
You replace all your e’s with your i’s
And sometimes, I don’t even think you try
To apply the lessons you learned so long ago.
Oh my dear, if you want to be heard.
I’ll be nice and offer you this little piece of advice
For when you write your written written word.

[chorus]
Use spell check, use spell check.
It’s on every computer, so why not abuse it.
Don’t forget your punctuation
Commas, colons, periods, apostrophes quotations.
Be selective with your perspective
Use first or third person, stick with that assertion.
Don’t change your tense, in mid sentence
Try be certain of the when, don’t use both now and then.
And if your sentences are too long, they’re probably wrong.

Oh, I just can’t sit tight
And not set you right
When you, make a mess of the things you type
Oh, I just can’t sleep at night
I must put up a fight
And let you know when your writing is shite.
You say over “there” but spell it as “they are”.
You use “it is” for possessive and that’s going too far.
And I won’t even start on your abuse of ah, capitalisation.
But still, I want to be nice
So I’ll be concise and for the second time, give you advice
On how to make your words entice.

[chorus]
